2005 Summer Medical Outreach Mission and Cultural Excursion

to

Ghana (West Africa)  June 19 - July 2, 2005

DAY  1.   SUNDAY, JUNE 19 - DEPARTURE - JFK to AMSTERDAM.
KLM Flight departs at 6:15pm.  Check-In begins 5 hours before departure and closes 2 hours before take-off.  International Check-In requires that you arrive at least 3 hours before flight departure to ensure enough time for your personal check-in luggage process, immigration and security clearances.  You are allowed to check-in 2 pieces of luggage free, each weighing 70 lbs. or less and 1 carry-on weighing 12 lbs. or less. GHANA ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Valid Passport and Visa are required to enter Ghana.  Complimentary visa service. Four passport photos and embassy consulate entry visa fee of $80 is required.
 
DAY 2.   MONDAY, JUNE 20 - AMSTERDAM TO ACCRA  -  Arrive in Amsterdam at 7:35am. Depart Amsterdam on KL-589 at 2:20pm. Arrive at Accra Kotoka International Airport at 7:10pm.  Transfer to the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel and check into your rooms.  Orientation and Welcome Reception.  (If time permit, Fashion Designers Showcase and Cultural Performance after Dinner.  You are encouraged to order custom made African outfits. NOTE: Down payment may be required to accept your order).  Overnight.

DAY 3.   TUESDAY, JUNE  21 - DEPART ACCRA TO NKWANTA VOLTA REGION: Breakfast.   Board bus.  Depart for a picturesque journey through the majestic rolling hills to Nkwanta.  Reception.  Check into Gate Way Hotel. Orientation by Dr. Koku, Nkwanta District Hospital Director.  Dinner.  Overnight.

DAY 4.   WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22 -  NKWANTA  - First Day Medical Outreach
Breakfast.   Orientation of District Hospital and local clinics, mission work schedule and assignment areas.  Overnight.

DAY 5.  THURSDAY, JUNE 23 - NKWANTA: Scheduled Medical Support  Activities. Overnight.

DAY 6.  FRIDAY, JUNE 24 - NKWANTA: Scheduled Medical Support Activities. Overnight.
 
DAY 7.  SATURDAY, JUNE 25 -NKWANTA:  Scheduled Medical Support Activities. Overnight.
 
DAY  8.   SUNDAY,  JUNE 26 -  NKWANTA:  Scheduled Medical Support Activities. Overnight.
 

DAY  9.    MONDAY,  JUNE 27 - NKWANTA:  Medical Support Activities End at noon.  Mid afternoon visit a new Game Reserve that will open June 2004.  Dinner.  Overnight.

 

DAY  10.   TUESDAY, JUNE 28 -  DEPART NKWANTA TO HO.
Early Breakfast, board bus.  En route we will visit the new Wildlife Reserve and the beautiful Wli Water Falls and Peki, the original home of Kente Cloth.  Arrive at Ho, Volta Regional Headquarters. Check into the Chances Hotel. Dinner.  Overnight.

 

DAY  11.    WEDNESDAY, JUNE  29 -  HO/CAPE COST, CENTRAL REGION
Breakfast and depart for Cape Coast. Arrive and check into the Coconut Grove beach-front hotel. Bring your bathing suit to enjoy the beach. Afternoon visit to the famous KakumRain Forest Park and experience the fun and adventurous Canopy Walk.  Late afternoon tour of Old Elmina historical township for a tour of the Elmina Slave Castle. Be a part of an emotional tour of the slave dungeons and pass through the "Door Of No Return".  The experience would send chills down your spine and leave an indelible mark on your conscience.  Dinner. Overnight

DAY 12.    THURSDAY, JUNE  30 -CAPE COAST/ACCRA
Breakfast and depart for Accra. Arrive and check into the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. Rest of the day is for rest and relaxation.  Visit to Aburi for authentic African Carvings, thw Macola Market or the Arts Center for shopping, try your barganing skills. Fashion designers will be at the hotel to deliver the custom-made outfits you ordered. Dinner.  Overnight.

DAY 13.   FRIDAY,  JULY  1 -  ACCRA /AMSTERDAM (FREE DAY)
Today is a free day to enjoy and pack your luggage. You will have to complete your hotel check-out formalities this morning. NOTE: Please bring all your packed luggage to the Lobby at 11:00am to be transferred to the airport for advanced check-in.  Farewell dinner at 5:00pm. Transfer to the airport for boarding at 7:00pm. KLM flight KL-590 departs Accra at 9:15pm.

 

DAY 14.    SATURDAY, JULY 02 – AMSTERDAM/NEW YORK: Arrive in Amsterdam at 6:10A. KLM flight KL-641 departs Amsterdam at 2:15pm; arriving in New York  (JFK) at 4:15pm.  CONNECT TO YOUR DOMESTIC FLIGHTS.

Round Trip Airfare from New York (JFK) via Amsterdam to Accra
NOTE: Transportation from your point of origin to JFK is not included.
You must make your own domestic travel arrangements.
Round Trip transfers to hotel and airport.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT
Hepatitis B Vaccination is required for Health Care Providers 30 days prior to departure. Quinine Sulfate (Malaria Pills) -  Take 1 pill a week two weeks prior to departure, 1 a week while in country and 1 a week for 4 weeks after your return for a total of 8 pills. Yellow Fever Vaccination.  Must bring documentation  with you. Please consult your physician or local Health Department.

RATE:  $2,540 plus $120 tax (per person double occupancy) ($375 Single)
NOTE: This rate applies to a group of 15 or more persons.  Supplement charge would be paid by anyone who occupies a hotel room by themselves either by choice or otherwise. Rates are subject to change without notice.
